Unwanted medicines

Patients who would normally return their unwanted medicines to a community pharmacy for disposal are being asked to delay the return of unwanted medicines – with the exception of controlled drugs like morphine - during the COVID-19 pandemic to allow pharmacies to focus on meeting the needs of their patients.

Patients who do need to return unwanted medicines (and the pharmacy is able to take the medicines back for safe disposal) are asked to ensure:

  • they remain 2 metres away from pharmacy staff when handing in medicines, and
  • remove dispensing labels from the medicines where possible.
