Are you prescribed an inhaler? If you answered yes, did you know that Dry Powder Inhalers (DPIs) have a much lower carbon footprint than pressurised Metered Dose Inhalers (pMDIs). Swapping from a pMDI to a DPI is the equivalent of driving 171 miles less for each inhaler swapped! In addition, many patients find DPIs easier to use, which can mean that it makes them less breathless. Please ask about being prescribed lower carbon footprint inhaler(s) next time you speak to your GP surgery.
Another thing you can do to dramatically reduce the environmental impact of any inhaler you use is to return them to a community pharmacy when they are empty or no longer needed. This will ensure they are disposed of in a way that is more environmentally friendly than if you were to dispose of them in your general waste.
